The automobile market in India is continuously gaining momentum. According to the January 2026 report of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), a total of 27,22,558 vehicles were sold in the country. This figure is 17.61 percent more than January 2025. At the same time, a monthly increase of 34 percent has been recorded in sales as compared to December 2025. It is clear from these figures that the beginning of the new year was very good for the auto sector.
Two wheeler sales took the biggest jump
The highest sales in January 2026 were in the two-wheeler segment. During this period, 18,52,870 bikes and scooters were sold. This sale was 40.70 percent more than in December 2025, while an increase of about 21 percent was recorded on an annual basis. In January last year, 15,33,556 two-wheelers were sold. In India, the demand for bikes and scooters of companies like Hero MotoCorp, Honda, TVS, Bajaj, Suzuki and Royal Enfield remains strong.
Car and SUV Sales
A total of 5,13,475 cars and SUVs were sold in January 2026. This figure is 35 percent more than December 2025 and 7 percent more than January 2025. There has been a good growth in the sales of cars of companies like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra and Toyota in the Indian market. No decline in demand even after festivals is a positive sign for the market.
Growth in three wheeler and tractor sales also
1,27,134 three-wheelers were sold in January 2026. E-rickshaws and passenger three-wheelers had a good share in this. An increase of about 19 percent was recorded on annual basis. At the same time, 1,14,759 units were sold in the tractor segment, which is 22.89 percent more than last year. However, a slight decline was seen in tractor sales on a monthly basis.
Commercial Vehicle and CE Segment
In the commercial vehicle segment, 1,07,486 units were sold, which is an annual increase of 15 percent. Whereas, 6,834 units were sold in the Construction Equipment (CE) segment. It is clear from these figures that activities are also increasing in the infrastructure and logistics sectors. It is clear from the vehicle sales report for January 2026 that the Indian auto market is in a strong position. Two-wheeler and car segments have played an important role in driving the market forward. Similar strength in sales is expected to be seen in the coming months also.
