Research Report on Artificial Intelligence: After the rapid expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI), there is a doubt in the minds of people whether it is leading to loss of jobs on a large scale, especially in the IT sector. Recent layoffs have also been linked to AI many times. Although, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations A recent research report prepared by (ICRIER) in collaboration with OpenAI does not consider this assumption to be completely correct.
Are jobs going away due to AI?
According to this study titled ‘AI and Jobs: This Time is No Different’, at present, jobs in the IT sector are not being lost directly due to AI. The report states that the advent of AI has made work methods more organized and efficient, increased productivity and changed work processes, but it is not replacing human employees on a large scale. This survey was conducted on 650 IT firms in 10 cities of the country between November 2025 and January 2026, in which recruitment trends, business demand, productivity and skill patterns were analyzed.
The report revealed that AI simplifies output and enhances the usefulness of skilled professionals, not replaces them. Companies admitted that there has been some reduction in entry-level recruitment, but recruitment at mid and senior levels is continuing as before. Researchers say that the trends of the IT sector are largely in line with the pre-Covid trends and AI has not made any extraordinary changes in them.
What came out in the research?
However, the study also suggests that roles where greater automation is possible are relatively more at risk. In contrast, demand for technical roles such as software developers, data engineers and database administrators has increased. Overall, the report indicates that rather than eliminating jobs, AI is driving skill-based change, requiring the workforce to upgrade themselves to suit new technologies.
