US President Donald Trump is repeatedly threatening Iran regarding the nuclear deal. Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi has put a condition before America. He said Tehran would be ready for a nuclear deal with the United States if Washington was willing to discuss lifting sanctions on Iran. Iran and the US came together for talks in Oman earlier this month and will return to the negotiating table in Geneva on Tuesday (17 February 2026).
Iran placed this condition before America
In an interview given to BBC, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister said, ‘Now the ball is in America’s court. They have to prove whether they want to do the deal or not. If they are serious about this then I am sure we will move towards an agreement. He said that talks with America are more or less in a positive direction, but it is too early to reach any conclusion. US President Trump has also described the talks between the two countries as positive. However, he has warned that if there is no agreement, there could be military attacks.
What did Iran say on stopping uranium enrichment?
America had earlier demanded that Iran stop uranium enrichment completely. On this, Majid Takht-Ravanchi said that zero enrichment is no longer an issue and from Iran’s point of view it is no longer a topic of discussion. He said, ‘If America is ready to talk about sanctions, then we are ready to discuss issues related to our nuclear program.’
Talks will be held only on nuclear issue: Iran
Iran says that any new talks should focus only on the nuclear issue. He also reiterated that despite pressure from Washington and Israel, Iran will not discuss its ballistic missile program. He said, ‘When we were attacked by Israel and America, our missiles protected us. It is not acceptable for us to give up our defense capabilities.
Trump’s warning to Iran
Trump said in the White House, ‘We have to compromise otherwise the situation will become very difficult and painful. I don’t want this, but compromise is necessary. When asked about the time limit, Trump said that this process should not take too long. He said that a decision should be taken within the next one month and Iran should agree quickly. Trump said in clear words that if the talks fail, the situation may worsen.
