US President Donald Trump has received a big blow from the US Supreme Court. The US Supreme Court made strong remarks, calling Trump’s tariffs illegal. The court gave a clear message to Trump and said that America is not at war with every country in the world. Along with this, the Supreme Court said that the right to impose tariff lies with the Parliament and not within the jurisdiction of the President.

What has the US Supreme Court said in its decision?

US Chief Justice John Roberts has said in his decision that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) does not give the President the right to impose tariffs. He has given this decision while also mentioning many important points in the decision.

Supreme Court said- They should get authority for this from Congress

The Supreme Court has said in its decision that the President has claimed more power with respect to the unilateral unlimited amount, time period, and scope of imposing tariffs. Considering that said right constitutionally and historically, they should get authority for this from Congress.

US President Donald Trump has no such authority: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court said that the government thus believes, as it should, that the President of the United States has no authority to impose tariffs in time of peace.

Supreme Court does not use the power to wage war

The Supreme Court has said that it does not defend the challenged tariffs as an exercise of the President’s war powers. Apart from this, the court has said in its decision that America is not involved in war with every country in the world. The tariffs challenged are unlimited in scope, amount and duration.
