The first attack was on the Madrasa located in Barmal city of Paktika province of Afghanistan, in which many religious books were burnt. Afghan Taliban officials are assessing the damage caused by these attacks and have warned of retaliatory action.
CNN-News18 quoted sources close to the leadership as saying that there is a possibility of a sharp increase in tension on the border. Sources have confirmed that at least 28 TTP fighters were killed in these attacks in eastern and south-eastern Afghanistan.
‘Taliban has full right to retaliate’
A source close to the Afghan Taliban said that we are assessing the attacks by Pakistan and said that the authorities are investigating the damage caused by the attacks. The source accused Pakistan of violating Afghan sovereignty. He said that Pakistan had violated Afghan airspace and stressed that the Taliban had every right to retaliate.
‘Pakistan violated ceasefire’
He said that we will counterattack at the right time. After the attacks, senior Taliban leaders have called emergency consultation meetings. According to the source, the top leadership has called important meetings in Kabul and Kandahar to discuss the situation. Taliban accused Pakistan of violating existing agreements. The source said, “Pakistan has violated the ceasefire. We are informing all the mediators including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey about this.”
Pakistani security sources said that terrorist structures were targeted in the cross-border operation. According to him, terrorist camps were destroyed in precise strikes in Paktika, Paktia, Nangarhar and Khost provinces. Pakistan carried out air strikes inside Afghanistan in the early hours of Sunday, in which several positions along the Durand Line were targeted. Fighter planes also attacked suspected hideouts of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
