Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that US President Donald Trump wants to make every possible effort to reach a diplomatic agreement with Iran before trying other options on the nuclear issue. During an interview on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ program, Netanyahu said that if Tehran breaks its promises, US leaders will not shy away from using force.
Netanyahu said, “I think President Trump wants to make every effort to reach a negotiated settlement, especially on the nuclear issue. He further said that when the Iranians break their promises, and often within a few hours or minutes after making the promise, they do not hesitate to use force. So I think we should give the President a chance.”
Netanyahu expressed gratitude for US-Israel cooperation in countering Iran’s nuclear ambitions. He said that their joint efforts have prevented Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Netanyahu said that many people have no idea how far Iran had gone in increasing its nuclear capabilities.
‘Tehran’s nuclear program pushed back significantly’
He said that recent military operations by America and Israel have significantly set back Tehran’s nuclear program. He added, “We ran these two campaigns called ‘Midnight Hammer’ and ‘Epic Fury.’ We call them ‘Rising Lion’ and ‘Roaring Lion.’ We basically pushed them back.”
American attacks on 140 military bases of Iran
These statements of the Israeli Prime Minister have come in an environment of increased tension between America and Iran. On Sunday, America attacked 140 military bases of Iran through fighter planes, drones and naval ships flying from land and sea. These targets included Iran’s missile and drone sites, ammunition storage centers, communication networks and coastal surveillance centers.
These attacks from the US side come after the IRGC attack on the Cyprus-flagged container ship M/V GFS Galaxy in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that they have launched a massive attack on the logistics support center and refueling platform used by the American aircraft carrier at Duqm Port in Oman.
