Jamiat Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s challenge to Asim Munir in Pakistan – ‘If you have the courage, take off your uniform and…’

Now politicians in Pakistan have started raising questions on Army Chief Asim Munir. Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal, the most influential religious leader there, said that the army should remain within its constitutional limits. Jamiat Chief said that if the Army wants to play a political role then it should contest elections.

While addressing a rally in Kasur, Punjab, Maulana Fazlur Rehman challenged Asim Munir and said, ‘If you want to do politics, then take off your uniform and contest elections, then you will understand how many votes people give to the army.’

Balochistan out of control: Maulana

Fazlur Rehman claimed that Pakistan Army has lost its control in Balochistan. Describing the reality of Pakistan, Maulana said that the country is disintegrating. He asked where are the people who rule. The Jamiat chief said, ‘There were rebellions in Baloch areas. The entire Baloch region was out of the control of Pakistan. Even today there is no rule of Pakistani government there. He claimed that the deteriorating security situation has now spread to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said, ‘We were controlling the Baloch region, now the Pashtun region is also drowning in blood. We have found more than 50 dead bodies in just two-three days.

Questioning Asim Munir’s security strategy, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that asking citizens to confront armed groups will deepen social divisions and promote violence for generations. He said, ‘You will be gone, but you are pushing my motherland towards personal vendetta for future generations, pushing it towards murder and plunder forever.’

Why did Fazlur Rehman make this comment?

Recently, Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir had appealed to the citizens and said that they should support the army in the fight against banned organizations. He had said that the army cannot eliminate terrorism without the cooperation of civilians. Fazlur Rehman rejected Asim Munir’s appeal and said, ‘It is the constitutional duty of the army to protect the country and citizens should not be asked to fight the battle of the state.’

Maulana said, ‘Why are you imposing the debt of your blood on me? You are taking your salaries from the taxes earned through our hard work and sweat and then you ask us to raise militias and fight armed groups. I have not taken any salary. I will not create any army.

Maulana’s advice to Asim Munir

While giving advice to Asim Munir, Fazlur Rehman said, ‘I also want to tell the people in power that you are not strangers. You are also our Pakistani. You are also our brother who reads Kalma, but if you want to stay in this country then there is a limit for me too. I should not cross my limits.

He said, ‘Parliament has its own limits, each department has its own jurisdiction and similarly the Army also has its own jurisdiction. The army has its own responsibilities. Focus on your responsibilities, not on politics.
Jamiat Chief’s challenge to Asim Munir

Fazlur Rehman said that the public will appoint whoever they want in the government, it is their prerogative. He challenged Asim Munir and said that if the army really wants to rule then it should contest elections instead of influencing politics from behind the scenes. He said explain this politics to someone else. Don’t try to convince us.
