On one hand, the AI Impact Summit in the capital Delhi is proving to be a big step towards establishing India as a global power in Artificial Intelligence, while on the other hand, the news of shocking misuse of AI from Maharashtra has exposed the dark side of technology.

An attempt at mass cheating was detected in the 12th class Politics paper at Bomanwar Junior Science and Arts College examination center on 18th February. An attempt was made to send out photographs of the question paper and extract answers from ChatGPT and send their printed copies to the centre. Three teachers and one clerk have been suspended and a police case has been registered in the matter.
How did the matter come to light?
District Council Chief Executive Officer Suhas Gade conducted a surprise inspection of the center on February 18 during the Politics examination. At the time of inspection, micro notes of the concerned subject and printouts of the questions of the ongoing paper taken from ChatGPT were recovered outside the centre. This exposed the conspiracy of mass copying.
During investigation it became clear that the photo of the question paper was sent out during the examination. People present outside searched the answers to the questions from ChatGPT and tried to print them and send them to the examination centre. This effort could not be successful due to timely raids.
Investigation and legal action
Considering the matter as serious, the CEO immediately constituted an investigation committee. After the report of the committee confirmed the attempt of mass copying, a case was registered in Chamorshi police station on the complaint of in-charge group education officer Sudhir Akhade. Legal action has been initiated against three teachers including the center head and one shipai.
The Education Department has issued orders to suspend the four employees concerned with immediate effect. A departmental inquiry has also been started to find out who else was involved in this conspiracy. The officials have asked for a detailed report of the entire incident.
Stir in education department
After the incident, there has been a stir in the education department of Gadchiroli district. Instructions have been given to increase surveillance and intensify surprise inspections at all examination centres. Extra vigilance has been asked to keep the examination process transparent and fair. Officials have clarified that any kind of cheating or misuse of technology will not be tolerated in the examination.
