On the other hand, senior Congress leader Pratibha Singh is said to be angry amid the discussion about making Anurag Sharma the candidate in Himachal Pradesh. There has been increased political excitement within the party regarding these developments.
Let us tell you that Congress announced the names of six candidates on Thursday, March 5 for the Rajya Sabha elections, in which the party has made Kangra District Congress Committee President Anurag Sharma the candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections from Himachal Pradesh, while Karmaveer Singh Boudh has been made the candidate from Haryana.
Who is the Congress candidate in Himachal?
Let us tell you that amidst the ongoing political tussle over a Rajya Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, the Indian National Congress has announced its candidate. The party high command has made Kangra District Congress President Anurag Sharma the official candidate. This decision put an end to the ongoing speculation among several claimants.
Names like former Union Minister Anand Sharma, senior state Congress leader Pratibha Singh and Rajni Patil were in discussion for this seat. However, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was continuously insisting that the candidate should be a local resident of Himachal Pradesh. By stamping the name of Anurag Sharma, Congress has given the message of giving priority to local representation, and has also made clear the strategy to handle a politically important district like Kangra.
Anurag Sharma is considered close to Chief Minister Sukhu. The tenure of BJP’s current Rajya Sabha MP Indu Goswami is ending on 9 April. Before this the election of a new MP has to be held. Nominations will be filed today, they will be scrutinized tomorrow and if necessary, voting will be held on March 16.
