Afghanistan New Captain: The 2026 T20 World Cup went very badly for Afghanistan. Afghanistan, which reached the semi-finals last season, could not even reach the Super-8 in this tournament. The team was eliminated from the group stage itself. In view of this poor performance of the team, captain Rashid Khan was dismissed.
Rashid was seen commanding Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup. Now after the tournament, opening batsman Ibrahim Zadran has been made the new captain of the T20 team. This decision was taken on Thursday (05 March), when the Afghan Board announced the team for the white ball series against Sri Lanka.
It was said in the release that Ibrahim Zadran, who was earlier playing the role of vice-captain for the team, has now replaced Rashid as the captain in T20 International. Although Rashid is included as a spinner in both ODI and T20 teams.
