Recent tensions between Israel and Lebanon are largely linked to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. This organization mainly operates from southern Lebanon and has been in conflict with Israel for a long time. How many Shia Muslims in Lebanon?
Lebanon has not conducted an official population census since 1932. However, some estimates from the United States Department of State have given information about the demographic makeup of the country. According to these estimates, about 65% to 70% of the population of Lebanon is Muslim. This includes both Sunni and Shia communities. In this population, Shia Muslims constitute about 30% to 32.02% of the total population. The Shia community in Lebanon is mostly concentrated in southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley and southern areas of Beirut. These areas are also considered the stronghold of Hezbollah.
