Sunil Gavaskar Angry On Sunrisers Leeds: There is a strong discussion in the Indian cricket world about Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed. In The Hundred League to be held in England, Indian-owned franchise Sunrisers Leeds bought Abrar for 1.90 pounds (about 2.34 crore Indian rupees). The franchise is owned by Sun Group. This group also owns the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, due to which the Indian fans were angry at the purchase of the Pakistani player.

The CEO of Sunrisers franchise is Kavya Maran, who is seen supporting the Hyderabad team during the IPL. Fans are also criticizing Kavya a lot. Former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has also been included in this list. Gavaskar apparently considered this purchase of Sunrisers Leads wrong. He believes that the money given to Pakistani players can be used to kill Indians.

What did Sunil Gavaskar say?

Gavaskar wrote in his column in Mid-Day that such reactions are natural considering the incidents between India and Pakistan in the last several years. Veteran Gavaskar told how Pakistani players were banned from IPL after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. After this, emotions have become more sensitive after the Pulwama attack of 2019 and the Pahalgam attack of 2025.

use of money against indians

Gavaskar believes that if an Indian-owned team buys a Pakistani player, that money will reach the Pakistan government in the form of tax and that money can be used to buy weapons. In this way the money going to Pakistani players can be used against Indians.

Indian owners should pay attention

Gavaskar further wrote that team coach Daniel Vettori may not understand this sensitivity, but Indian owners should pay attention to this. Gavaskar wrote, “Indian owners are indirectly funding a system that can lead to the death of Indian soldiers and civilians. Is winning such tournaments more important than the lives of Indians? In which very few players from the country participate.”
