Indian cricket team’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav told that his father had quickly understood that he was not much interested in studies. Surya said that his father also supported him a lot to become a cricketer. Expressing happiness over the winning rate of more than 80 percent as a T20 captain, Surya said that what he could never achieve in percentage in school-college, he is achieving in cricket.
Suryakumar Yadav was appointed captain after T20 World Cup 2024. Under his captaincy, India performed brilliantly in this format and created history by winning the T20 World Cup in 2026. India is the first country to win the T20 World Cup at home and has won the title twice in a row. Under the captaincy of Surya, India has won 42 out of 52 matches, lost 8 matches and 2 remained inconclusive.
Didn’t get this much percentage in school
In an interview with PTI, Suryakumar Yadav said, “In school/college, I could not score more than 50 or 60 percent, but here (in cricket) I am happy to hear that I have scored 80 percent. However, I do not look at the statistics much. No one likes to lose in any game, I also like to win all the matches.”
Suryakumar’s father was an electrical engineer at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, who understood that his son was more interested in cricket than studies. Recalling his childhood days, Surya said, “My family tried a lot to educate me, but they soon realized that I was more interested in cricket. This boy will not come in my hands now.”
Suryakumar’s father fully supported him in his dream of playing cricket. He told that when he saw that I was enjoying playing it, my father said, ‘Okay, go play, even if nothing happens later, we will manage.’
