The Indian Premier League was started in the year 2008 and till now a total of eight teams have won the IPL trophy. From Chennai Super Kings to Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders, there are teams who have achieved the title of champion more than once. If we talk about the last five years, a total of four teams have won the Indian Premier League title.
IPL champions of last 5 years
2021 was the last season when eight teams participated in the IPL. In the final, Chennai Super Kings won their fourth title by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs. In 2022, the number of teams increased to 10 and a new team Gujarat Titans lifted the trophy under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. In the final, Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets.
In 2023 also, Gujarat team went to the finals, but this time Chennai Super Kings won their fifth and last title so far by defeating them by 5 wickets. In the 2024 season, Kolkata Knight Riders won the trophy under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer. After 10 years, KKR team became IPL champion.
The year 2025 came, where new history was written. For the first time in its 18-year history, fan favorite Royal Challengers Bangalore created history under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar. In a thrilling final match, RCB defeated Punjab Kings by 6 runs.

If we talk about becoming IPL champions the most number of times, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are jointly at the first place. Both have won the IPL trophy five times each. Whereas in the last five years, Mumbai Indians team has not been able to win the trophy even once.
