Gautam Gambhir Lawsuit Against Deepfake: Indian cricket team head coach, former MP and World Cup winning player Gautam Gambhir has approached the Delhi High Court regarding misuse of his identity. He has filed a civil suit in the court alleging that his name, face and voice are being misused on social media and the internet. Gambhir alleges that many fake videos and posts are being spread in his name.
In the application filed in Delhi High Court, Gambhir says that for the last few months, many fake videos and posts are being spread on the internet in his name. In these videos, using deepfake and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, it is shown as if he himself is giving some statement, whereas in reality he did not say anything like that.
According to his lawyers, a fake resignation video was viewed nearly 29 lakh times on social media, while another video showed him commenting on senior cricketers playing the World Cup. About 17 lakh people watched this video.
Made many companies including social media a party
In the application filed in Delhi High Court, Gautam Gambhir has made many social media accounts as well as big companies as parties. These include companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Meta, X and Google. It is alleged that posters and other items bearing his name and picture are also being sold on these platforms without permission. Gambhir has demanded from the court that his name, photo, voice or identity should not be used in any way without his written permission. He has also appealed to issue an interim order to immediately remove fake videos and posts.
Gautam Gambhir demanded compensation of Rs 2.5 crore
Gambhir’s lawyer said in the court that my identity is being used to spread wrong information and earn money. This is not just a personal matter, but a question of protecting law and honor. In this case, he has also demanded compensation of about Rs 2.5 crore.
