The Indian Premier League has seen legendary bowlers like Brett Lee, Shoaib Akhtar, Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah, who dominated every format of cricket. In the 18-year history of IPL, a total of 15 bowlers have achieved the feat of winning the Purple Cap. The Purple Cap is given to the bowler who takes the most wickets in the entire season. Till now, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel and Dwayne Bravo are the only three cricketers who have won the Purple Cap twice. But there are many great bowlers who have not yet won the Purple Cap.

Jasprit Bumrah
World cricket legends have also called Jasprit Bumrah one of the best bowlers of this era. Be it the responsibility of the new ball, taking wickets in the middle overs or stopping runs in the death overs, Bumrah has always proved to be a trump card for the captain. Has taken 183 wickets in his IPL career but has never been able to win the Purple Cap.

Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin, popularly known as ‘Professor’, has now retired from IPL, but his specialty was to get the team out of difficult situations with the help of his spin. He played 16 seasons in his IPL career, took 187 wickets but could never get the Purple Cap by taking the most wickets in a season.

Sunil Narine
It is still very difficult to assess the bowling variations of Sunil Narine, who has been serving Kolkata Knight Riders for the last 14 years. He is the third highest wicket taker in IPL history with 192 wickets. Even after playing 189 matches, his economy rate is below 8. Unfortunately, he has not been able to add the achievement of Purple Cap to this historic career.

Piyush Chawla
Piyush Chawla retired from the Indian Premier League after the conclusion of IPL 2025. In his historic IPL career of 192 matches, Chawla has taken only 192 wickets. 2023 was the only season when he took more than 20 wickets, but he had no match in terms of consistency.

Rashid Khan
Rashid Khan, who has been playing continuously in IPL since 2017, has taken 158 wickets. There have been three seasons when he has taken 20 or more wickets and in 2023 he took 27 wickets, but the Purple Cap still remained out of his reach.
