Chennai Super Kings IPL 2026: The troubles of Chennai Super Kings are not showing signs of diminishing. Fast bowler Nathan Ellis has been ruled out of the entire tournament, now star all-rounder Matthew Short has been ruled out of the first few matches of IPL 2026. According to Cricbuzz, Short has a fracture in his thumb and can join the CSK team in the middle of the season. Short had earlier also been dropped from the squad for T20 World Cup 2026.
Now the question is whether the Chennai Super Kings team will weaken due to the exclusion of Matthew Short. Probably not, because Dewald Brewis, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmed and Matt Henry could be the four foreign players in the team who will get a place in the playing eleven of the Chennai team. But CSK does not have any experienced spin bowling all-rounder, from that point of view Short’s injury can be harmful for the team.
CSK needs replacement for Ellis
In the mini auction, Chennai Super Kings bought Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis for Rs 2 crore. Ellis’ T20 figures have been excellent, so his injury is a big blow for CSK. Ellis was especially supposed to take charge of the death overs, but due to his absence, Chennai’s death bowling attack also seems to be weakening.
Till now Chennai Super Kings has not been able to find his replacement. CSK CEO Kashi Vishwanathan gave an update and said that he has contacted Otniel Bartman. Since Bartman plays in Major League Cricket (MLC) for Texas Super Kings, which is the same team of CSK franchise. In such a situation, it will not be too difficult for Chennai Super Kings to sign him. Bartman has currently signed a deal with Hyderabad Kingsmen in Pakistan Super League. If he leaves PSL, he will not be the first cricketer to do so because Corbin Bosch and Blessing Muzarabani have done so earlier.
