There will be a ‘Euro Nations Cup’ tournament on the lines of Asia Cup, in which teams like England, Ireland etc. will play. Cricket Ireland Chairman Brian McNeice expressed confidence that this tournament will start by 2027, which will be played in men’s and women’s categories. Announcing Ireland’s 2026 domestic international matches on Friday, McNeice said he was very excited about it.
Euro Nations Cup will be important for the development of regional cricket. Just as Asian teams play in the Asia Cup, similarly European teams will play in the Euro Nations Cup. Teams like England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Netherlands etc. can play in this. McNeice said that he is excited about this idea and last year he had presented it to the officials of the England Cricket Board. According to ESPNcricinfo, the England Cricket Board was not involved in the recent discussions related to this proposal.
Brian McNeice said, “I have been discussing this with different people for a long time. This is an idea that I believe in and I am very excited about it. Talks are progressing and I am confident that this tournament will definitely happen.” He expressed hope that this tournament will definitely start in the summer of 2027. He said, “Its format and other information will also be told in the coming days.”
McNeese expressed confidence that its official announcement will be made in the next few months. He said, “Discussions are being held with different organizations and people related to the tournament, let me make it clear that it will be a men’s and women’s event. From the broadcasters’ point of view, it is too early to talk about it. Until something is confirmed, it will be too early to say anything.” He expressed hope that broadcasters will definitely show interest in it.
On Friday, Cricket Ireland signed a contract with UAE and Nepal Cricket Association. Under this, Ireland’s men’s national cricket team will regularly play white ball series with UAE and Nepal. At the same time, from 2026-2027, every franchise will have to include at least one player from Ireland in the International League T20.
