The first match of IPL 2026 will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, March 28. A few hours before the start of this match, big news came out, in which it was told that the ban on live telecast of IPL in Bangladesh has been lifted.

According to media reports, this decision was taken by the new Information and Broadcasting Minister of Bangladesh, Zahir Uddin Swapan. He made it clear that if any channel applies to broadcast the Indian Premier League, the government will look at it positively.

The decision was taken after Mustafizur Rahman was out.

So let us tell you that the decision to ban the telecast of IPL in Bangladesh was taken after the country’s fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from the upcoming season of the tournament.

What actually happened was that Kolkata Knight Riders had bought Mustafizur for a price of Rs 9.20 crore in the auction held in December 2025. But at this time the situation in Bangladesh was very bad, due to which there were reports of atrocities on minority Hindus living there. After this, there was protest in India that Bangladeshi players would not play in the IPL. In view of the protest, BCCI ordered KKR to release Musfizur, the franchise did the same.

Bangladesh had banned it in January

After Mustafizur’s ouster, news came out in January 2026 that the Information and Broadcasting Ministry of Bangladesh banned the telecast of IPL in the country after Mustafizur Rahman’s ouster. The ban on broadcasting was issued through an official notification signed by Assistant Secretary Firoz Khan.

What did Zaheer Uddin Swapan say on lifting the ban?

Talking about lifting the ban, Zahir Uddin Swapan said, “No one has applied to us for IPL telecast. We do not want to mix politics with sports. We will look at it from a commercial perspective and if any channel applies to telecast IPL, we will consider it positively.”

There is no restriction on anyone for broadcasting

Swapan said, “We will not stop anyone from telecasting it. If Star Sports wants to telecast it, they can. If any of our channels want to telecast it, we will welcome it in a positive manner, but we will not put any pressure on anyone.”
