Why No Opening Ceremony For IPL 2026: IPL 2026 is starting from today i.e. 28th March, Saturday. The first match of the 19th season will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Fans have often seen that an opening ceremony is organized before the opening match of the Indian Premier League, in which many artists perform and entertain the fans, but this time there will be no opening ceremony.
So let us tell you that the reason for not having an opening ceremony this time is the stampede that took place in Bengaluru last season, in which 11 people lost their lives. Royal Challengers Bangalore won the title in the last season i.e. 2025 IPL. This was the team’s first title, after which there was a lot of enthusiasm among the fans and players.
With the same enthusiasm, RCB’s victory parade took place in Bengaluru, in which there was a stampede outside the stadium. 11 people lost their lives in the stampede. Apart from this, many people were injured.
BCCI Secretary confirmed
While talking to ‘Aaj Tak’, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Devjit Saikia had confirmed that the opening ceremony of this year’s IPL will not be organised. He attributed the reason behind the event not being held to the stampede that took place after the victory of Arsi on June 04. With this, tribute can be paid to those who lost their lives.
Talks continue on closing ceremony
Just as the IPL season starts with an opening ceremony, in the same way a closing ceremony is organized at the end of the tournament. Regarding the closing ceremony, Devjit Saikia said that talks are going on. There may be a closing ceremony at the end of the tournament. Now it will be interesting to see whether the closing ceremony takes place or not. Let us tell you that fans enjoy the opening and closing ceremonies very much.
