Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has made a special appeal to the public. He also warned that due to the current situation in the Middle East, the oil crisis will deepen and the coming months will not be easy. In his address to the nation, he said, ‘The coming months cannot be easy. I want to say this clearly. No government can promise to end the pressure arising from this war.
The Australian PM said that he wants to speak directly to the country about what the government is doing to save Australia in these difficult times, and what they (the public) can do to help the country. He further said, ‘The parties and the opposition are all working together to take Australia forward. So that if the situation around the world worsens and our fuel supply is significantly disrupted in the long run, then we can decide together the next steps.
Albanese told the public that keeping in mind the current situation, fuel excise has been halved and heavy road user charge has been reduced to zero for the next three months. Australian PM assured, ‘We are working to reduce the price of fuel. We are also working to bring more fuel here and use our strong trading relationships to bring more petrol, diesel and fertilizers to Australia.
In an address lasting 3 minutes and 17 seconds, Albanese further said, ‘I can promise that we will do everything possible to protect Australia from its worst effects.’ He appealed to Australians not to panic buy fuel and as far as possible, use public transport instead of cars.
He said, ‘If you are going out on the road, do not take more fuel than necessary – just fill up as you normally would. Think about your community, people living in remote areas and those involved in essential industries.
