Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the BRICS summit to be held in India this year. Russian news agency TASS has shared this information quoting Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. Peskov has said that President Putin will definitely participate in the BRICS summit to be held in India. Although the exact date and schedule of the 18th BRICS summit to be held in India have not been decided yet, President Putin has already confirmed his visit to India.
BRICS summit will be held under the chairmanship of India this year
Last year, the BRICS summit was organized in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on July 6-7, 2025. This year the chairmanship of this summit is in the hands of India. The BRICS summit to be held in India will be based on the theme of ‘building resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability’. This theme reflects the ‘People-Centric and Humanity-First’ vision presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Rio Summit in 2025.
Earlier, India had hosted the 13th BRICS Summit on September 9, 2021, with the theme ‘BRICS@15: Continuity, Strengthening and Consensus for Internal Cooperation’.
Putin’s second visit to India in a year
This visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India for the BRICS summit will be his second visit within a year. Earlier, the Russian President had come to India on the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to participate in the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit in the first week of December, 2025.
During Putin’s last visit, both the leaders had reiterated their commitment to strengthen the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia. An MoU was also signed between India and Russia for cooperation in port and shipping sector. Besides, both the countries had also agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the construction of stable and efficient transport corridors.
