The Election Commission on Wednesday (April 22, 2026) has issued a warning to Congress Party National President Mallikarjun Kharge over his statement calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a terrorist. The Election Commission has sought a reply from the Congress President within 24 hours on the controversial remarks made about the Prime Minister.
The Election Commission took this action on Wednesday (April 22) after a complaint by a high-level delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which included Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal. The delegation demanded strict action from the Election Commission on the controversial statement of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
Political controversy arose after Kharge’s statement
In fact, Congress Party National President Mallikarjun Kharge gave a statement regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a press conference in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday (April 21, 2026). Criticizing AIADMK, he called PM Modi a terrorist. Although he later clarified his statement, calling the PM a terrorist created a big political controversy.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is furious after Kharge’s statement. BJP has strongly condemned Congress and Mallikarjun Kharega, calling it an insult not only to PM Modi but also to 142 crore Indians.
What did Kharge say about Prime Minister Modi??
Mallikarjun Kharge, while talking to reporters in Chennai, questioned AIADMK’s decision to forge an alliance with BJP. He said, ‘How can these AIADMK people, who put up Annadurai’s own picture, go along with Modi? He is a terrorist. His party does not believe in equality and justice. These people are associating with them, it means that they are weakening democracy.
He said, ‘You need such leaders who will not bow down before BJP and fight boldly and he is MK Stalin. Today AIADMK has lost its identity. It has become a silent-slave ally of BJP. It cannot protect the interests of Tamil Nadu because it has become a slave of Prime Minister Modi.
