Paytm Payments Bank: A very shocking news has come out from the digital banking sector. The matter is that an amount of about ₹ 800 crore is still stuck in Paytm Payments Bank. Whereas almost two years have passed since the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) banned its operation.
Rs 400 crore unclaimed
According to a report by CNBC-TV18, even after almost two years of halting operations, more than ₹800 crore of customers’ money is stuck in Paytm Payments Bank. According to sources, almost half of the amount currently stuck is stuck in such accounts which are frozen.
At the same time, the remaining ₹400 crore is such that no one has claimed it till now. The surprising thing is that there has been no significant reduction in the unclaimed amount in the last one year. That is, despite being reminded several times, the customers have not made any effort or claim to remove it.
The bank’s customer base was strong
Before the regulatory action, there were deposits of more than Rs 5500 crore in this bank, which has now reduced to Rs 800 crore. The bank also had a large base of customers with about 35 crore accounts. Of these, later only 10-10.5 crore accounts remained active, while the rest were converted into frozen, dormant and mule accounts.
Sources said the Reserve Bank of India had asked Paytm Group to proactively communicate with users, including sending alerts and reminders to facilitate withdrawal of their deposits. Let us inform you that the Reserve Bank has officially canceled the banking license of Paytm Payments Bank with effect from 24 April 2026.
How to withdraw money?
- If your account is not frozen, you can normally withdraw money by transferring it to another bank account or send it to the bank from Wallet.
