Assembly Elections Result 2026: Bharatiya Janata Party is performing quite unevenly in the 2026 assembly elections. While the party seems to be dominating in Assam and West Bengal, it is facing a tough fight in southern states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It seems difficult for the party to cross the figure of 5 to 10 seats in the southern states.
BJP’s stronghold became stronger
BJP has surprised everyone by making a huge lead in West Bengal. Out of 293 seats, the party has crossed the majority mark of 148 seats and is leading in about 199 seats. The ruling party TMC led by Mamata Banerjee is on 87 seats.
Meanwhile, in the 126-seat assembly in Assam, the alliance is leading on about 97 seats. The Congress led alliance is lagging far behind and has got a lead in only about 24 seats. This demonstration further strengthens the BJP’s stronghold in the Northeast.

What is the story of Tamil Nadu?
The story is completely different in Tamil Nadu. Here BJP is struggling to establish its influence. In the 234-seat assembly, the party has got a lead on only about three seats. The main contest here is between DMK, AIADMK and TVK.

BJP has made very modest progress in Kerala. In the 140-seat assembly, BJP is leading on only two seats. A fierce contest is being seen between UDF and LDF in the state. In the current trends, UDF is in the fray with around 96 seats and ITF with around 41 seats.

There is some relief for BJP in Puducherry. In the 30-seat assembly, BJP is leading on 22 seats and Congress is leading on 6 seats.
One thing is clear from these election trends that BJP is strengthening its dominance in North-East and Eastern India. However, the party is still facing challenges in the southern states. In simple words, while BJP’s roar is being heard in some areas, in other areas it is still trying to find its voice.
