Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a bumper victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026. On Monday, May 4, counting of 293 seats took place, in which BJP won 206 seats. BJP government is going to be formed for the first time in the state. Sanjeev Goenka, owner of IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants, while congratulating on BJP’s victory in the state, said that the hopes and aspirations of the people have once again awakened.
LSG team owner Sanjiv Goenka was born in Calcutta, the capital of West Bengal. He also did his studies from Calcutta (St. Xavier’s College). He is the chairman of RPSG Group, which is an investor in Mohun Bagan and Lucknow Supergiants. “With this unprecedented result, the dreams, hopes and aspirations of the people of Bengal have once again been awakened,” he wrote while posting near the BJP’s victory in West Bengal.
He further wrote, “As someone who was born in Bengal, who spent his entire life here, and who will take his last breath here, I have a deep emotional connection with this state and its progress.”

Sanjiv Goenka further wrote, “I am proud to be a resident of Bengal, and I look forward to playing my humble role in its transformative future.” There was Mamata Banerjee’s rule in West Bengal for 15 years, which was ended by BJP. This time Trinamool Congress could win only 81 seats.

LSG at the bottom of the points table
However, Sanjeev Goenka has been disappointed by his team in IPL 2026. Lucknow Super Giants is at the bottom of the points table. On Monday, LSG lost to Mumbai Indians, which was the team’s 7th defeat in 9 matches of the season. Now Lucknow can reach maximum 14 points even after winning all its 5 matches. Although Lucknow is not officially out of the race for the playoffs, but now it is almost impossible for them to go to the playoffs.
