With the victory of actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party TVK, a major political upheaval is being seen in the politics of Tamil Nadu. Amidst preparations for the formation of the new government, Congress has announced its support to TVK by breaking its long-standing alliance with DMK.
Congress said that ‘its alliance with TVK is not only for the formation of this government, but also for the future elections to local body organisations, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.’ However, despite supporting TVK in Tamil Nadu, Congress may continue to support DMK in the ‘India Bloc’ at the Centre. Congress’ Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar said, ‘Our only condition from TVK is that we do not want any ally of BJP to be included in this alliance. We will remain in ‘India’ alliance with DMK.
Congress’s support to TVK
Earlier, Congress had officially announced its support to Vijay’s party TVK to form the government. This decision was taken after the meeting of the top leadership of Congress and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. All India Congress Committee (AICC) Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar issued a press release saying that TVK President Vijay had formally sought support from the Congress.

This condition was laid for support
He said that the people of Tamil Nadu, especially the youth, have given a clear and strong mandate, which is in favor of a secular, progressive and public welfare government. Respecting this mandate, Congress has decided to give ‘full support’ to TVK. However, the party has also made it clear that this support will be with a condition. Congress said that any ‘communal force’ which does not have faith in the Constitution of India should not be included in this alliance.
