Goat Farming Scheme: The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a major subsidy scheme with the aim of promoting goat rearing and increasing the income of rural families across the state. Under this new initiative, eligible beneficiaries will have to invest only ₹ 6000 from their pocket and they can start a goat rearing unit costing ₹ 60000. 90% subsidy by government
Under this scheme, the Uttar Pradesh government will provide a subsidy covering 90% of the total unit cost. The beneficiary’s contribution has been fixed at only 10%. The total cost of a goat rearing unit has been estimated at ₹60000. Out of this amount, the beneficiary will contribute ₹6000 and the government will provide ₹54000 as financial assistance.
What is included in a goat farming unit?
According to the guidelines, a goat rearing unit will consist of 6 animals. One goat and five goats. The government says that beneficiaries should buy improved goat breeds. Like Burberry, Beetle and Black Bengal.

Women and marginal farmers will be given priority
The state government has made it clear that the scheme specifically targets the economically weaker rural group. During beneficiary selection, priority will be given to agricultural labourers, landless persons, marginal farmers and women applicants. With this, about 3% of the total beneficiaries will reportedly be reserved for persons with disabilities.
Along with this, priority will also be given to those applicants who have taken formal training in sheep or goat rearing. This includes taking training from Sheep and Goat Rearing Training Center and Central Goat Research Institute.
How will the assistance be received?
According to the report, out of the assistance amount of ₹54000 to be received from the government, ₹49000 will be deposited directly into the bank account of the beneficiary. The remaining ₹ 5000 will be used for 1 year insurance cover for the goats, transportation expenses and purchase of necessary equipment and utensils.
How to apply?
Interested persons can contact the office of the Chief Veterinary Officer of their district or the nearest veterinary hospital. Also, Aadhar card, caste certificate, residence certificate, bank passbook and photo will be required for the application.
