Cricket fans got to see a very unique record in the match played between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2026. In this match played in Dharamshala, Delhi Capitals took such a decision, which was not seen again in the history of IPL in the last 10 years. Captain Akshar Patel won the toss and decided to bowl first, but the most discussion was about the team’s bowling strategy.
In this match, Delhi Capitals completed its entire 20 overs bowling relying only on fast bowlers. The team used a total of five bowlers and all of them bowled their full four overs each. The special thing was that not a single spin bowler was included in these.
Mitchell Starc, Mukesh Kumar, Aaqib Nabi, Madhav Tiwari and Lungi Ngidi took the responsibility of bowling from Delhi side. Captain Axar Patel himself is a spinner, but he also did not bowl. It is believed that considering the pitch of Dharamshala, the Delhi team did not want to take any risk.
Such a record made in IPL after 10 years
This is not the first time in IPL history, but this was not seen in the last 10 years. Earlier in the year 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad had played a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore without any spinner. Hyderabad had won that match, but Delhi’s move could not succeed. Delhi bowlers failed to stop Punjab batsmen and Punjab Kings scored a huge score of 210 runs after losing 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

While playing the captaincy innings, Shreyas Iyer scored unbeaten 59 runs in 36 balls. Apart from this, Cooper Conley contributed 38 runs and Suryansh Shedge contributed 21 runs. Punjab’s batsmen adopted an aggressive style from the very beginning and maintained constant pressure on Delhi’s bowlers.

Why was Akshar’s stake heavy?
Delhi Capitals certainly showed confidence in the fast bowlers, but Punjab’s batsmen took full advantage of this strategy. Due to lack of spin option, Delhi could not control the run rate in the middle overs. This was the reason why Punjab easily crossed 200 runs.
