It is the dream of many youth to join the services related to the country’s security. But when it comes to the choice between BSF and CRPF, the question arises in the minds of many candidates that what is the biggest difference between the two. Both forces work for the security of the country, but their way of working and responsibilities are quite different.
The main job of BSF is to protect the borders of the country. This force is deployed on the international borders of India and keeps an eye on border related activities. Whereas the job of CRPF is to maintain the security system inside the country. This includes responsibilities like anti-terrorism operations, action in Naxal affected areas and maintaining law and order.
Difference in spending time with family
In the first few years of BSF, there may be posting in border posts and remote areas. Sometimes it becomes difficult to keep the family together in such places. On the other hand, family life is also not easy in CRPF, because there is always a possibility of duty and transfer to different states.
Mode of posting and duty
BSF officers are mostly deployed in border areas. They have to take charge of the posts and units located on the border. Whereas CRPF officers can be sent to different states and in many types of operations. Therefore, the scope of work here is considered quite large.

Lifestyle and work environment
In BSF, many times one can get a chance to work in the same area for a long time. This can keep the working environment somewhat stable. At the same time, CRPF has to face new challenges due to constantly changing circumstances. Here officers have to work in rapidly changing conditions.
Promotion and career growth
The promotion system in both the forces is as per government rules. However, the pace of promotion depends on many factors, such as vacancy, service record and departmental policies. Therefore, it would not be correct to call any one force completely better in terms of promotion.
What could be better for new candidates
If a candidate wants to work related to border security and is ready to work in remote areas, then BSF can be a good option. Whereas if a person wants to have different types of operations and diverse experience, then CRPF can prove to be a better option. In both the services, dedication and responsibility towards the country is considered most important.
