The heat wave is increasing across the country. Meanwhile, an important news has come out for the students from Rajasthan. This time the summer holidays for lakhs of children of the state will not be as long as before. The Education Department has reduced the duration of summer holidays by releasing a new academic calendar for the session 2026-27. Now there will be holidays in government and private schools only from 17th May to 20th June and regular classes will start from 21st June.
Earlier students used to get about 45 days of summer vacations, but now this period has been reduced to 35 days. The Education Department says that this decision has been taken to run the studies on time and in a better way, so that the beginning of the session is not delayed and the time of June is not wasted.
What happened till now?
In previous years, schools used to open only for one day on 21st June, that too to celebrate International Yoga Day. After the yoga program, schools would be closed again and regular studies would start from 1st July. Because of this, the last week of June remained almost empty.
This time this system has been completely changed. Now when schools will open on 21st June, Yoga Day will also be celebrated from the same day and regular classes will also start.
Admission date also decided
In the new calendar, the last date for admission in classes 9 to 12 has been fixed as July 11, 2026. Whereas admissions for classes 1 to 8 will continue throughout the year. This will make it easier for schools to complete the admission process on time.

Principal’s leave power also reduced
The Education Department has also made changes in the rights of the school principal. Earlier the principal could declare two local holidays at his level, but now he will be able to declare only one local holiday.

Teacher organizations have expressed concern after this decision. He says that in May and June the temperature in many areas of Rajasthan goes above 45 degrees Celsius. In such a situation, it is not good for children’s health to come to school. Teachers organizations have demanded the government to reconsider this decision.
