He posted on X and wrote, ‘My resignation letter to Biju Janata Dal President Naveen Patnaik. From the inception of the party till today, I have worked according to my policy of service, organization and dedication. In future also I will continue my struggle for the people of Odisha. Jai Jagannath.

Samantrai said, today i.e. on 25th May, I am resigning from the primary membership of BJD. I will always be grateful to you for nominating me to Rajya Sabha. I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of undivided Cuttack district and raise the issues of Odisha at the national level.
