Today’s weather live updates: The effect of extreme heat is continuously increasing across the country. In many states from North India to Eastern and Central India, the temperature has crossed 45 degrees Celsius. Brahmapuri in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region was the hottest place in the country with 47.2 degrees Celsius, while Sriganganagar in Rajasthan, Sirsa in Haryana and Banda in UP also recorded temperatures around 46 degrees. Heat wave continues in Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and the Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow alerts in many areas.
A heatwave warning has been issued in Odisha till May 28, where the temperature crossed 45 degrees in many cities including Jharsuguda. Nearly 200 bats died amid the scorching heat in Korba, Chhattisgarh, the reason for which is believed to be heat wave.
On the other hand, the Uttar Pradesh government has given instructions to further strengthen the weather early warning system so that timely alerts can reach the villages. At the Wildlife SOS Center in Mathura, 34 rescued elephants are being given ice cream, frozen fruits, curd, watermelon, cucumber and ORS to provide relief from the heat.
According to officials, water, mud and shade are very important for elephants because they are unable to cool their bodies through sweat. The Meteorological Department has indicated that after May 28-29, due to the effect of western disturbance, there may be some relief from the heat with thunderstorms and light rain in many states.
