New Rules For Oil Packs: Edible oil packets are being sold in the market in many different sizes, like 650 grams, 700 grams, 810 grams, 850 grams. In such a situation, customers face difficulty in comparing prices correctly. To overcome this problem, the government is considering bringing new rules.
According to the Consumer Affairs Department, standard sizes can be fixed for edible oil packets. This step will be taken under legal metrology i.e. statutory weighing rules. After the implementation of the new rules, packets can be available in fixed sizes like 200 ml, 500 ml, 1 to 5 litre, 15 liter or kg and 20 liter or 20 kg.

Industry organizations expressed concern
Let us tell you that recently a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare, in which big organizations associated with the edible oil industry participated. These organizations have expressed concern about the increasing variety of packet sizes in the market. Industry organizations say that having uniform standard sizes will make it easier for customers to understand the price of oil and compare different brands. For this reason, it has been agreed to fix standard packet sizes for major varieties of edible oil.
Small packets may remain outside for now
Industry organizations have suggested that packets smaller than 200 ml be kept out of the scope of this rule. Due to this, small packets with low price will be available in the market like before and common customers will not face any problem.
