Ration Card: Recently, in the cabinet meeting, the central government has taken an important decision regarding free ration i.e. PDS. Under which now by making some special changes in this scheme, free ration will be distributed to about 80 crore people of the country. Ration card is mandatory
First of all, it is important to know that for this the government document ‘Ration Card’ is the most important. Through this, eligible families get ration at cheap rates under the Public Distribution System (PDS). Ration card is issued by the state government. This also reveals the financial condition of the person. Although it is not mandatory to get it made, but most people get ration card made to take advantage of government facilities and subsidies.

Types of Ration Card
Generally there are four types of ration cards.
- APL (Above Poverty Line)
- BPL (Below Poverty Line)
- AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana)

How to make ration card?
If you have not made a ration card yet, you can apply for it both online and offline. Every state has its own separate portal and process.
Apply online like this
- Visit the website of your state’s Food and Supplies Department.
- Create an account and login to the website.
- Select e-Services or New Ration Card option.
- Fill the application form and upload the required documents.
- After submitting the form, you will get a reference number, through which the application can be tracked further.

Apply offline like this
- Go to the nearest ration shop or fair price shop.
- Take the application form and fill it.
- Submit the form along with necessary documents.
- Get the reference number after submitting the application.
Whichever process you submit your application for, after that the documents and information will be scrutinized by the officials. Usually, the verification process is completed within 30 days and the ration card is issued. If any incorrect information is found in the application, the application can also be cancelled.
Documents required to make ration card
If you also want to get your ration card made, then you should have these important documents. As:
- completed application form
- income certificate
- Identity Card (Voter ID, Driving License, Passport etc.)
- Address Proof (Electricity Bill, Phone Bill, Bank Passbook, Rent Nama etc.)
- photo of the head of the family
- annual income information
- old ration card
The government provides free ration to poor people only through ration cards. For this, you will have to go to the government ration shop or ‘ration dealer’ present in your area with your ration card and Aadhar card. After which you will easily get ration. Nowadays, most of the shops also give ration by putting fingerprint (biometric) on the e-point (e-PoS) machine.
