Tata Tiago Petrol vs CNG: The new Tata Tiago has now been launched in all three options, Petrol, CNG and EV, but the biggest question before most of the buyers is whether it would be right to buy Petrol or would CNG be a more sensible decision. Amidst the ever increasing prices of petrol, CNG is now being called the new diesel because its running cost is very low.
On the other hand, many people prefer petrol models for better performance and smooth driving. Tata has also given a long list of features in the new Tiago, which makes it feel more premium than before. In such a situation, if you are also planning to buy a new Tiago, then it is important to first understand which option will be more beneficial according to your needs and budget.
Which is the wiser option in terms of mileage and running cost?
The new Tata Tiago has a 1.2 liter 3 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine which gives power of 86bhp. Whereas in CNG version the power reduces slightly to 75bhp. However, the real difference is seen in the running cost. While the petrol model gives a mileage of less than 20kmpl, the CNG version claims to give an efficiency of up to 26.49 km/kg.
This can prove to be a big benefit for people who walk a lot every day. The special thing is that now Tiago CNG also has features like AMT gearbox and paddle shifters, due to which driving has become easier and more modern than before. Talking about the price, CNG model is costlier than petrol by about one lakh rupees, but due to low running cost this amount can be recovered quickly.

Who has the upper hand in features and performance?
The new Tata Tiago is now more feature loaded than before. It has features like 360 degree camera, blind view monitor, 6 airbags and rear AC vents. If we talk about performance, the petrol model feels more powerful and gives better response on the highway. Whereas the focus of CNG model has been kept on low cost and high mileage.
However, one drawback is that the CNG version is not available in the top Creative+ variant and is limited to the Creative trim. In such a situation, if you want more features and better driving experience then petrol model will be better. But if your daily drive is more and you want to keep fuel expenses low, then Tiago CNG may prove to be a more sensible option.
