According to the report of New Indian Express, India and 30 countries are working on a plan to create an alternative supply chain for these rare minerals. Actually, these minerals are used in electric vehicles, smartphones and defense equipment. Sources said that after the strictness in export rules from Beijing, work is going on on the plan of a new chain to reduce dependence on China.
According to the report, an official said that India has reserves, but most of them are used for special projects like ISRO. For big markets like smartphones and vehicles, industries still have to import from China. It is being said that if the new scheme is implemented then it will be a big challenge to convince Indian industries on prices.
Partnership with research institutions in Australia
According to the report, India is working with 30-40 other countries to create an alternative market and supply chain, so that dependence on China for imports can be reduced. According to sources, India is talking to Canada, Japan, Australia and other countries. However, it is not yet clear how many countries have agreed to this plan.
The official said that the challenge is regarding matching of prices. Before sharing sensitive technologies, it is important that other countries trust our systems. According to the report, Indian agencies are planning partnerships with research institutes in Australia.
