Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee has expressed displeasure over the attack on TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in Sonarpur, West Bengal. He has held the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responsible for this attack. By sharing a post on social media platform X, he has even called BJP a murderer.
In his X post, he has written only one line while re-sharing the video post shared from the official handle of TMC. He wrote, ‘Rulers became murderers… Shame on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).’

Mamta Banerjee reached the hospital to meet Abhishek Banerjee
At the same time, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee reached Apollo Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday (May 30, 2026) evening to meet her nephew and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who was injured in the Sonarpur attack, where Abhishek Banerjee is undergoing treatment.

The party said, ‘Despite the violent attack by BJP-backed miscreants, our National General Secretary did not choose the path of retreat. Instead, they stood by the family, devastated by an unimaginable loss allegedly inflicted by BJP-backed goons. At the same time, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge has strongly condemned the attack on TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee. He wrote in his X post, ‘I strongly condemn the shocking attack on MP Abhishek Banerjee in Sonarpur. He had gone to meet the families affected by the post-poll violence in the state. Not providing adequate police protection to a prominent opposition leader exposes the BJP’s politics of revenge and harassment.
Kharge further said, ‘The Government of West Bengal and the Government of India should ensure the security of all opposition leaders and take immediate steps to stop such attacks. Political differences can never justify any kind of violence.
