Early Symptoms Of Multiple Sclerosis In Young Adults: There are many diseases that appear suddenly with severe symptoms, so people recognize them quickly. But some diseases silently make their place in the body and their initial signs seem so common that people ignore them. Multiple sclerosis i.e. MS is one such disease. Even today in India, many of its cases are not detected on time, because its initial symptoms are often confused with stress, weakness, fatigue or lack of nutrition. This is the reason why many patients keep wandering for years before the true disease is diagnosed.
What are the symptoms of multiple sclerosis?
Tingling in hands or feet, blurred vision for a few days, sudden dizziness or feeling constantly tired are such signs which people consider as common problems. Many times these symptoms get cured on their own after some time, due to which the person feels that now everything is normal. But experts say that this can prove to be the biggest mistake. This small change visible in the body can be an early sign of a serious disease affecting the brain and spinal cord.
Why are its cases detected late?
Dr. Anshu Rastogi says that many cases of multiple sclerosis are not reported in India because its initial symptoms are very mild and temporary. Patients may feel tingling in hands and feet, muscle stiffness, numbness, blurred vision for some time, dizziness or fatigue without any reason. Many times these problems subside within a few days or weeks, so people assume that the disease is over. Whereas in reality it may be a sign of a process that damages the nerves.
Multiple sclerosis is a condition in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the layer that protects the nerves. This affects the process of sending messages between the brain and the rest of the body. The problem is that its symptoms can be different in every patient. Some may have vision problems, some may have trouble balancing, while some people may feel numbness or weakness in some part of the body. This is why it sometimes becomes difficult to identify the disease.
People of which age group have the most problems?
According to experts, this disease is more common in people between 20 and 40 years of age and its cases are more common in women than in men. But in people of this age group, problems like fatigue, dizziness, weakness or mood swings are often linked to work pressure, anxiety or lack of nutrients in the body. The doctor says that many patients are able to reach expert doctors only after going through many stages of the disease. By then the disease has progressed far ahead.

What is the status of this disease in India?
For a long time in India, it was believed that multiple sclerosis was a disease affecting very few people. Due to this thinking, awareness about it also remained limited. However, now after the increase in testing facilities and treatment of brain related diseases, more cases are being reported than before. However, in small towns and rural areas, due to lack of specialist doctors and good diagnostic facilities, it takes a long time for patients to reach the right treatment.
