Where is the first posting of an IPS officer?
The first appointment of IPS officers after completing the UPSC examination and training is usually as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). During this, the officer is posted in a district, where he handles the responsibilities of police administration under the guidance of senior officers.

What is the starting salary?
The starting basic salary of an IPS officer is fixed at Rs 56,100 per month. Apart from this, Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Traveling Allowance (TA) and other facilities are also available. Adding all these, the total starting monthly salary can reach around Rs 75000 to Rs 80000.
Earnings increase with experience
The salary of IPS officers increases continuously with experience and promotion in the service. After reaching the posts like Superintendent of Police (SP), Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Inspector General (IG) and Director General of Police (DGP), the salary can range from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.25 lakh per month.

IPS officers also get government accommodation, vehicle and driver, medical facilities, security personnel, traveling allowance, pension and many other government benefits. That is why IPS service is considered an attractive career option not only in terms of prestige but also financially.
