Ever since Trinamool Congress’s defeat in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has been receiving bad news one after the other. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who was earlier their MP, left the party. After that, Abhishek Banerjee was attacked in Sonarpur and Kalyan Banerjee was attacked in Hooghly. Now only 20 out of 80 MLAs attended the meeting called by TMC MLAs, which means keeping the party united is proving to be a big challenge for Mamata Banerjee.
This meeting of TMC MLAs was going to be held under the chairmanship of Mamata Banerjee, in which only the newly elected MLAs were called. When about three-fourth of the MLAs did not arrive, the meeting was cancelled.

What did TMC tell when the meeting was cancelled?
Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh cited the situation created after the attack on party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday and the alleged attack on party MP Kalyan Banerjee on Sunday as the reason for the absence of MLAs. Ghosh told reporters outside the Kalighat residence of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, ‘The meeting was already scheduled. However, after the attacks on our leaders, our MLAs are protesting at the grassroots level, due to which the police has taken strict action against our workers.
The meeting was to be held at Mamta Banerjee’s residence at 3 o’clock
He said that the MLAs who were absent were busy helping the arrested workers. Ghosh said that in view of the appeal of the MLAs, the Trinamool Legislature Party has decided to cancel the meeting for the time being, although about 20 MLAs had reached the venue of the meeting, which was to start at 3 pm.
Kunal Ghosh said, ‘We will organize this meeting later, information about which will be duly informed to our MLAs. All our MLAs have made it clear that they stand firmly with the party in this difficult time.

Party sources said that despite the low attendance of leaders, Banerjee interacted informally with those present at the meeting. However, Ghosh informed about two decisions taken by the party to intensify protests in the next 48 hours against the BJP government led by Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari.
