Once again a situation of war appears to be brewing in the Middle East. Iran has decided to stop the ongoing talks with America in protest against Israeli attacks on Lebanon. According to Iranian news agency Tasnim, this decision has been taken in response to Israeli violation of the ceasefire in Lebanon.

Why did Iran cancel peace talks with US?

According to the news agency, the Iranian negotiating team will stop talks and exchange of messages through mediators until its demands regarding Gaza and Lebanon are met. In recent days, Israel intensified attacks in Lebanon. Many Middle East and European countries have condemned the military action and called instead for diplomacy and an end to the bloodshed.

Israel says that there has been a ceasefire violation by Hezbollah, in response to which it has increased attacks on Lebanon. Hezbollah has said that it is attacking Israeli forces in response to continued Israeli attacks. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said that Israel has continued its military operations and shelling of villages under the pretext of self-defense. He said, ‘Lebanon is committed to diplomacy. This will not solve the problem in a moment, rather it is a process which will take time and we have no other option.

New threat regarding Strait of Hormuz

After the ceasefire agreement on April 16, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stopped attacks on Lebanon for some time. However, they soon resumed attacks on Hezbollah targets, claiming that these were defensive operations, acceptable under the US-brokered ceasefire. Iranian media has claimed that Tehran and its allied groups are now preparing to increase pressure on the Strait of Hormuz and Bab-al-Mandeb waterway.

According to Tasnim News Agency, Israel has violated this ceasefire on all fronts. Tehran has demanded an immediate halt to Israel’s war in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Beirut, and said there will be no negotiations until Iran and the resistance’s positions on these matters are satisfied.

Araghchi threatened Iran

Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi posted on X and wrote, ‘The ceasefire between Iran and America is clearly a ceasefire on all fronts including Lebanon. Its violation on one front is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts. America and Israel are responsible for the consequences of any violation.

Pakistan is playing the role of mediator between America and Iran. Islamabad Talk was organized regarding this, in which America’s Vice President JD Vance had attended, but this talk proved to be a failure. Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir has also visited Iran regarding this.
