Now the opposition parties i.e. Samajwadi Party and Congress have geared up for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2027. Now Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi are going to plan something big to give a tough challenge to the ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Discussion has started on the issue of seat sharing with the alliance between both the parties.
In fact, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has sought suggestions from party leaders, MPs and MLAs as to which seats can be given to Congress in their districts. According to sources, SP is preparing a list of about 60 to 80 seats for Congress, while it is also identifying its potential candidates on all 403 seats.
Congress will demand 120 assembly seats
At the same time, it is also coming to light that Congress can demand about 120 seats in the initial talks. However, the final settlement is expected to be around 80 seats. The top leadership of both the parties is in favor of the alliance, but many leaders at the grassroots level are uneasy due to the possibility of less seats.
Many leaders are not in favor of SP-Congress alliance
Some senior Congress leaders believe that an alliance before the elections will give BJP an opportunity to attack on issues like ‘appeasement’ and law and order. That’s why they are also expressing their opinion against the alliance.
On the other hand, SP leaders argue that the organizational base of Congress is weak in the state, while Congress claims that it played an important role in the success of the alliance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
There have been ups and downs in the relations between the two parties before. There was tension over rhetoric in the year 2023, but later after talks between Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, an agreement was reached for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
If SP-Congress takes a timely decision, it can cause a big wound.
Congress is emphasizing on winnable seats and wants to get strong seats in terms of social equations. This issue can become the biggest dispute in seat sharing. Political experts believe that if the seat distribution is decided soon, both the parties will get enough time for election preparation, but tough negotiations regarding the number and quality of seats are believed to be certain.
