The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may make major changes in its retirement policy very soon. BCCI is preparing to rein in those players who start playing in foreign leagues immediately after retirement. According to the current rules, no active Indian cricketer is allowed to play in foreign leagues, but he can play after retirement.
What is the new proposed retirement policy?
BCCI is considering bringing this policy because of those players, who are taking retirement so that they can play in foreign leagues. Especially because of Vijay Shankar, this matter has gained more importance. Shankar, who joined the Kandy Royals team in the Sri Lanka Premier League within a week of his retirement.
The new proposed retirement policy says that a cooling-off period will be imposed on the player after retirement. This means that if a player plays in a foreign league after retirement, he will not be able to play any level of cricket in India for five years.
Understand clearly that if an Indian player has retired today, he will not be able to participate in any foreign league for the next 5 years. If he does this, he cannot play any level of cricket in India for the next 5 years.
Yuvraj-Irfan also play
Vijay Shankar is not the only player who has played cricket in other leagues after retirement. Many great cricketers including Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh have been playing in the World Championship of Legends and Legends League cricket. This retirement policy may not have any impact on him, because he does not play cricket at any other level.
