Central and state governments should answer questions related to the incident: Abhishek

Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, shared a post in this regard on social media platform X on Saturday (June 6, 2026). He said, ‘Many such reports have come out in which it is being claimed that I have sought central security cover after the attack on me in Sonarpur, West Bengal on 30th of last month i.e. 30th May, 2026. This claim is completely false, baseless and far from the truth.

Many incidents of heinous crimes took place in the state in one month: Abhishek

Abhishek Banerjee said, ‘What is even more worrying is that in the last one month, incidents of sexual harassment and many other heinous crimes have come to light in West Bengal, of which common citizens have been victims, but many of these incidents have received little or no attention. The safety of citizens should be the biggest priority of those who have been entrusted with the responsibility of ruling the state.

He further said, ‘I request the security agencies of the state and the Center to focus their attention on ensuring the safety of the citizens of West Bengal, rather than allowing some misinformation and politically motivated stories to be promoted. The public deserves security, accountability and the truth.
