LPG Price Hike Public Reaction: The price of domestic LPG cylinder has been increased by Rs 29. This is the second increase in three months. According to industry sources, from June 7, the price of 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi will increase from Rs 913 to Rs 942. Earlier on March 7, the price of cylinder was increased by Rs 60.

This increase was made after the disruption in global energy supply due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the rise in international fuel prices. Industry sources say that this increase has compensated for the loss on domestic LPG sales only to some extent. According to sources, before this latest change in prices, government oil marketing companies were incurring a loss of about Rs 703 on the sale of every LPG cylinder.

Prices of petrol, diesel and CNG also increased

Since mid-May, the prices of petrol and diesel have also increased by a total of Rs 7.50 per liter, while the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has increased by about Rs 6 per kg. Despite the recent hike, according to industry sources, oil companies are still selling petrol and diesel below cost, making them a loss of around Rs 11 per liter on petrol and Rs 33.6 per liter on diesel.

The government has not yet passed the entire burden of increased international energy prices on consumers. Due to fluctuations in the global crude oil and fuel market, the government itself is bearing some part of the increased prices through government fuel companies.

All-round inflation hits

After petrol-diesel, CNG and commercial cylinders, now there is anger among the public due to the increase in the price of domestic LPG. Especially, housewives and middle class families say that since the month of May, the price of petrol and diesel has been increased by Rs 7.50 per liter and the price of CNG has been increased by Rs 6 per kg. Now due to increase in the price of domestic cylinder, the budget of LPG has also got disturbed.

Here, reports of panic booking are also coming out from many parts of the country. People are flocking to gas agencies to make advance booking due to the fear of further increase in prices in the coming months.

Opposition targeted PM Modi

After this latest increase in prices, the opposition party Congress has cornered the government and attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congress and other opposition leaders have named PM Modi as ‘Inflation Man’. They allege that this ‘inflation bill’ is being imposed on the public right after the elections.

Small businessmen worried

On June 1, the price of commercial gas cylinder had increased from Rs 42 to Rs 53.50. Now, due to the cost of domestic cylinders, small caterers, tea vendors and tiffin service operators say that they have no other option but to increase the prices of food plates and tea.
