How to become a loco pilot after 12th?

To become a loco pilot, a candidate must have passed 10th or 12th from a recognized board. Along with this, it is also considered necessary to have ITI certificate or engineering diploma. Subjects like Mechanical, Electrical and Automobile Engineering are considered most useful for this field. Students who do ITI after 10th can also apply for Assistant Loco Pilot Recruitment of Railway Recruitment Board. At the same time, candidates with diploma or technical education also get the opportunity to apply.

To become a loco pilot, one has to pass the Assistant Loco Pilot examination conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board. The selection process is completed in several stages. In the first phase, a computer based examination is conducted, in which questions are asked from Mathematics, Reasoning, General Awareness. After this there is CBT-2 exam, which includes questions related to technical subjects and engineering. Candidates successful in both the examinations are called for Computer Based Aptitude Test. After this the process of document verification and medical examination is completed. Whereas for Loco Pilot recruitment, the age of general category candidates should be between 18 to 28 years. Apart from this, reservation category candidates will get age relaxation as per government rules.

Special training is done after selection

Selected candidates are first appointed as Assistant Loco Pilot. After this, they are given technical and operational training in the zonal training centers of the Railways. After completion of training, they gain experience of train operation under the supervision of a senior loco pilot. Before selection, it is necessary to be completely physically and mentally fit for the job of loco pilot. Medical examination of the candidates is done during the selection process.
