Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur said after an easy 64-run win against Pakistan in the Group One match of the ICC T20 World Cup here on Sunday that her team had put unnecessary pressure on itself in the beginning.
Chasing India’s target of 171 runs, Pakistan’s team was reduced to 106 runs in 17 overs in front of the career-best bowling of off-spinner Deepti Sharma (five wickets for 10 runs). Left arm spinners Shri Charani (three wickets for 21 runs) and Shafali Verma (one wicket for 22 runs) also supported Deepti well.
Earlier, taking advantage of two lives, Smriti Mandhana, apart from playing an inning of 68 runs in 44 balls with nine fours and two sixes, also made a partnership of 91 runs for the third wicket with captain Harmanpreet Kaur (36 runs, 35 balls, four fours), due to which India scored 170 runs for six wickets, which is its highest score against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup.

Richa Ghosh finally scored 34 runs in 17 balls with five fours and one six and also made a brisk partnership of 45 runs in just 21 balls for the sixth wicket with Deepti Sharma (12 not out).
Harmanpreet praised Smriti and Deepti after the match and said, “Whenever we need them, they are always there to encourage the team.” The pitch was fine. In the beginning we put pressure on ourselves unnecessarily but when Smriti and I were batting, we tried to control the game.
Regarding Richa, who batted fast in the last overs of the innings, Harmanpreet said, “If it was in my hands, I would have liked to send her on the very first ball.” But she has a role and she is doing well.
Deepti, who was the most successful bowler in T20 International cricket with 166 wickets and was chosen the best player of the match, said that she likes these kind of wickets very much.
He said, “I am thankful and I like these kind of pitches.” I like ICC tournaments. The ball was turning so I kept changing my pace with every ball and every over. The ball was turning so I thought I should bowl slower and that helped me.
