Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has shown confidence in a Hindu captain for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Yes, Liton Das has become the new captain of Bangladesh’s ODI team, he already has the captaincy of the T20 team. He has replaced Mehdi Hasan Miraj.
Before Liton Das got the captaincy of the ODI team, Bangladesh cricket team had different captains in all three formats. Liton Das was captaining the T20 team, Mehdi Hasan Miraj was responsible for the ODI format, while Nazmul Hussain Shanto is the Test captain. BCB President Tamim Iqbal, after meeting with the Board of Directors, said that only two captains would be the right policy for Bangladesh.
2 Hindu cricketers in Bangladesh team
Liton Das is not the only Hindu cricketer who is currently a part of the Bangladesh cricket team. Apart from him, batsman Soumya Sarkar has been a regular part of Bangladesh’s white ball teams. Sarkar opens and has recently scored a strong half-century against Zimbabwe.
Apart from him, many Hindu cricketers including Alok Kapali, Dhiman Ghosh, Ronnie Talukdar have played for Bangladesh team. But in the current Bangladesh team, only 2 Hindu cricketers are playing Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar.

Why did Liton Das become the captain?
BCB President Tamim Iqbal said, “We had three different captains in three formats. I and the other board of directors feel that having two captains for the team would be good for the future.”
In such a situation, Liton Das will now captain the white ball teams of Bangladesh and the captaincy of the Test team will be in the hands of Nazmul Hussain Shanto.
