- This scheme is not currently proposed for international flights.
Air India: Air India is considering launching a new and affordable ticket class for passengers. This scheme can be started on some selected short routes and the fares can be reduced for those passengers who will not take food in the flight. Passengers will be able to travel in flights without paying for onboard meals (food served in flight). However, this proposal is still under consideration and if it is approved, this facility will be available only for domestic passengers.
Passengers can save money by not taking food
According to sources, this idea is being considered from the passengers’ point of view. Passengers who do not want to take food during the journey can choose ‘No Meals’ ticket and pay less than those booking regular tickets. This will also have less impact on the pockets of passengers. Air India already offers different fare categories and the proposed option could become another option for passengers who want to reduce travel expenses.

Possibility of starting on selected short routes
According to the information received, if the proposal is approved, the airline may initially offer this option on some selected short domestic routes. Feedback from passengers will play an important role in deciding its future. Based on customer feedback, the airline may either expand the category to more domestic routes or limit its availability.
Meanwhile, the proposed “no-meals” category for international flights is not being considered. Even if this plan is approved, it will be limited to domestic flights only. At present, Air India serves food to all passengers on both domestic and international flights.
